Refractory Ceramics of Clay and Alumina Waste

چکیده

Abstract Refractory ceramics were produced from clays and alumina waste. Specimens shaped by uniaxial pressing, subjected to thermal analysis dilatometry heat-treated in a conventional furnace at 1300 1400oC, applying heating rate of 5oC/min dwell time 2 3 hours the maximum temperature. The samples characterized X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) physicomechanical properties. dilatometric before heat treatment indicated that formulation containing largest amount fluxing oxides presented highest linear shrinkage. XRD revealed mullite was major phase needle crystals typical obtained clay minerals observed SEM. increase firing temperature improved properties specimens. expansion coefficient (TEC) range 25 1000oC varied 6.2 6.9 x 10-6°C-1.

Mullite-alumina functionally gradient ceramics

Cracks free mullite-alumina Functionally Gradient Ceramics (FGC) have been obtained by sequential slip casting of Mullite-alumina slurries with diserent mullite/alumina ratios. These slurries were prepared with 65 % solids content and viscosities rangingpom 10 to 40 mPa.s. 7he presence of cracks perpendicular to the FGC layers have been attributed to residual stresses developed because of the m...

Surface Contamination of Alumina Ceramics by Carbon

Article history: Received: 01.05.2016. Received in revised form: 25.07.2016. Accepted: 06.09.2016. This study presents the results of investigating the cause of contamination of aluminum oxide ceramics (Al2O3) in the form of brown colored stain. Contaminated ceramic surfaces were examined with the scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with the Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS). The res...

Utilization of Alumina Waste and Silica Waste for Geopolymer Production

This research studies the utilization of alumina waste and silica waste for geopolymer production. Alumina waste was obtained from aluminium thermal metallurgy industry, silica waste was obtained from silicone recycle industry in Thailand. This present study aimed at investigating the basic physical and chemical properties of waste materials and also the optimal proportion in geopolymer product...

Hertzian Contact Damage in Porous Alumina Ceramics

A study has been made of Hertzian contact damage in compressive shear stress field beneath the contact area. The observed microcrack density increases with grain size, porous and dense liquid-phase-sintered aluminas. Indentation stress–strain curves show increasing nonlinearity as the implying a threshold microstructural scale for crack initiation. In contrast, the micromechanisms controlling f...

Crack growth resistance of alumina, zirconia and zirconia toughened alumina ceramics for joint prostheses.

Mono-phase bio-ceramics (alumina and zirconia) are widely used as femoral heads in total hip replacements (THR) as an alternative to metal devices. Unfortunately, the orthopaedic community reports significant in-vivo failures. Material scientists are already familiar with composites like alumina zirconia. Since both are biocompatible, this could prove to be a new approach to implants. This pape...
